Filling an Empty Supreme Court Seat in an Election Year
In 2016, Klobuchar said the Constitution required a Senate vote on a Supreme Court nominee during an election year. She said: “The Constitution is clear: The Senate must consider the president's nominee and then choose whether to vote yes or no.”"We must do our job, hold hearings, and vote." 1
Court Packing
“Even before Ginsburg's death, several Democratic presidential hopefuls had said they were open to the idea, including Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, now the vice-presidential nominee 2
Statement from A3P Founder Mike Davis
“For the past fifty years, Democrats have debased themselves in Supreme Court confirmation hearings with childish antics, character assassinations, and straight up defamation. Angry Amy Klobuchar plays ‘Minnesota nice’ for the cameras, but the reality is that she has been complicit with her colleagues turning confirmation hearings into political hit jobs, aimed at destroying the lives and reputations of the nominees. This kind of erratic and destructive behavior is just as inappropriate when dealing with future federal judges as it is when directing them at her staff.”
- Klobuchar has not signed the Article VI Pledge to refrain from a religious test on Amy Coney Barrett.
What else you should know about Amy Klobuchar:
- Klobuchar pursued a deeply flawed case that put a teen in jail for life. An Associated Press investigation found that “there was no gun, fingerprints, or DNA. Alibis were never seriously pursued. Key evidence has gone missing or was never obtained.”3
- Klobuchar has established a Senate work environment “colored by volatility, highhandedness and distrust.” When a staff member lost plastic eating utensils for Klobuchar’s salad, she berated him, ate the salad with a comb, and then instructed her staff to clean it.4 From 2001 to 2016, Klobuchar’s office had the highest turnover of any Senator."5
- Klobuchar has selectively exploited sexual assault allegations. Despite attacking Justice Kavanaugh, Klobuchar defended two Democrats accused of sexual assault, promising to campaign with Keith Ellison (whose ex-girlfriend accused him of physical and emotional abuse) and expressing hope that Al Franken (who resigned amid several allegations of sexual misconduct) will have a “third act.”6
- Klobuchar opposed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would have protected infants who survive a botched abortion.7
